In the spring of 1953, Helmut Hessberger received his travelling salesman's licence and set off with leather goods, workwear and US web goods
...... to markets and customers in the region. His suitcases were filled to the brim with robust work jackets, leather belts and shirts, which he demonstrated directly at the sales stand. Even back then, he emphasised careful advice and the quality of his products - values that still form the basis of our company today.
Four years later, in 1957, Helmut and Elsbeth Hessberger opened their first stationary sales area in the back rooms of their parents' shoe shop. There, they stocked a selection of menswear for the first time: from casual leather jackets to classic coats. This step was groundbreaking for our later fashion house, as it allowed customers to check the quality and fit at their leisure - a concept that was further refined over the following decades.
In 1959, Adalbert and Katharina Hessberger retired and handed over their traditional shoe shop to their descendants. By enlarging the shop space, the Hessbergers were able to expand the range to include shirts, trousers and accessories. A highlight at that time was customised suits, which were fitted on site. The combination of customised menswear and personal advice quickly made Hessberger Moden an insider tip in Bad Orb and the surrounding area.
Six years later, in 1963, the store underwent extensive modernisation. The salesrooms were completely remodelled, large shop windows were installed and a modern façade gave the shop a fresh, inviting look. The clear room layout and bright lighting created a shopping experience that went far beyond the usual - an important milestone on the way to today's fashion speciality shop.
In 1966 and 1967, another extensive remodelling and expansion phase took place. The shop grew to the size of the former "Klein Neckermann" department stores' and from then on offered several departments under one roof. In addition to menswear, women's fashion and children's fashion were now also introduced. This breadth transformed Hessberger Moden into a permanent fixture in the centre of Bad Orb and enabled an even greater variety of brands.
Dieter and Elke Hessberger have been running the family business in the fourth generation since 1990. Under their management, the range has been modernised and expanded to include contemporary brands. 2018 marked another turning point: with the launch of the online shop www.hessbergermoden24.shop, we brought our selected brand fashion into the digital age - and now give customers throughout Germany access to our specialist shop.
Today, our range includes renowned brands for men and women that score highly when it comes to sustainability. From organically certified fabrics to environmentally friendly production processes, we work with partners who share our values. At the same time, we stock established traditional brands and innovative newcomers: whether classic men's shirts, Italian knitted jumpers with a 3D effect or comfortable Schiesser pyjamas - we offer exclusive fashion that is both timeless and sustainable.
